One of my clients said this to me in the middle of our appointment once, and I was moved by the simplicity of the quote I actually hadn’t heard before.  Absolutely nothing changes for you unless you make the decision to change certain behavior, attitudes, and habits.

For many, today marks the beginning of a new school year; as I reflect back on my own first-day of school experiences, I remember feeling the nervous anticipation of the unknown.  Who would I have for a teacher?  Who would be in my classes?  Would I do something stupid? The school year ahead held so much fear and so much promise all at the same time.  If I could go back in time and give myself a pep talk, I would tell myself that my thoughts shape my reality and my habits determine my results.

For kids, today is the beginning of a new school year, while for adults, it marks the onset of the fall season, with Christmas and the New Year just around the corner.  If thoughts become reality, and habits shape results, then this is the perfect time to create a new routine which centers around you moving toward the fulfilled life you imagine for yourself.

Before you start listening to the voice in your head telling you that you couldn’t possibly find time for anything else, I want to remind you that we all get the exact 24 hours in a day.  No one gets more or less than 24 hours.  Each of us chooses how we prioritize those 24 hours and now is the perfect time for you to look closely at how you divide up your day.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.  If you continue to do things the way you’ve always done them, then your reality will remain the same as it is today.

What you focus your energy on becomes reality.  Your mind is your most powerful asset, and your thoughts fuel your experiences.  Where can you fit some time in your day for some re-programming of your mind that is guaranteed to give you more joy in life?  Be honest with yourself.  Can you get up a half hour earlier each day?  Can you scroll social media for half an hour less a day?  Can you watch a half hour less T.V.?  Can you play games on your phone for half an hour less a day?

If you can dedicate only half an hour a day to strengthening your mind, through meditation, affirmations, podcasts, and other positive intentions, I guarantee you will see results, and you will soon crave more and more self-care time.  When life becomes more peaceful and happy, you will naturally begin to give up things that don’t serve you and you will replace them with routines that empower and inspire you.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.  Take this time to look at your habits and routines and ask yourself where you can implement new positive changes in your routine, knowing these small shifts of focus will lead to amazing new realities.
